Everybody knows that this is the time of the year when countless individuals jam the stores and mall to shop for Christmas gifts. Most people acquire major debt during this time of the year, and spend most of the following year trying to clear up the debt. Of course, this is a season of giving and everybody loves to give gifts to the one’s they love.
However, before we get totally swept away in the holiday spirit, we must also remember that this is a key season many families get hit with a case of identity theft. As wallets are opened, credit cards swiped, and checks written we fell to realize that every careless exchange of our private information opens us up to a possiblity of becoming a victim of identity theft. As sad as this may sound, many criminals, during a holiday season, look for careless individuals who aren’t aware of people looking over their shoulder for their credit card number or even leave receipts behind or may accidently drop receipts while shopping. We must always remain watchful and convince ourselves that their is nothing wrong with being overly cautious, especially during the Christmas shopping season. We must remember to store all of our receipts in a safe protected place and shred our bills, receipts and banking statements when disposing of them.
